The graveyard of Glenhoy Presbyterian Church is governed by a set of rules drawn up by the Congregational Committee. Those rules, approved by the Kirk Session and Committee on 15 June 2026, are as follows:
- The permission of the Minister in Charge must be sought before any funeral service takes place.
- Please speak to the undertaker as soon as possible.
- Only a member currently contributing a minimum of £100 pa. to the Freewill Offering or Property Fund of the Church may claim a new grave.
- Former members of the Church and their families may use an existing mapped family grave, but must pay a fee of £500 to the Church.
- Graves are not available to non members of the Church except as per paragraph 4 above.
- No headstone or inscription shall be placed/altered on any grave without the permission of the Kirk Session who will approve the wording, size and construction of same. All applications must be made in writing.
- Any individual may attend to and place flowers on the grave of a relative at any time, however, shrubs, plants of a permanent nature are not to be planted.
- No assemblies, except those in connection with the Church are to take place within Church property without permission of the Kirk Session. All applications must be made in writing.
- The Kirk Session or any other individual connected to the Church shall not be responsible for the safe-keeping or damage to any headstone, wreath or other artefact.
- Contractors or other persons erecting or replacing a Memorial stone, surround or base, or making any alterations to a grave plot, or carrying out any work in the graveyard shall be responsible for conducting a Risk Assessment before work commences and shall follow health and safety procedures when working on site. Such persons are responsible for removing all surplus materials, less large boulders, from the graveyard. They are to be placed in the area signposted ‘Designated Dumping Area’.
- The Church committee shall have the authority to amend these rules and regulations as they deem fit for the proper administration of the burial grounds. The committee reserve the right to make safe any headstone etc., they deem unsafe.
- The above rules and regulations shall come into force on the above date approved by the Church committee and shall supersede all previous rules and regulations.
In addition to the rules listed above please note that a fee will be due to the Organist and Sexton on any Funeral Service held in the Church.
